Student Leadership

At Craigslea State School, student leadership is grounded in our commitment to inclusion, respect, and collective responsibility. We believe every student has the capacity to lead, and we actively provide opportunities for students to develop confidence, agency, and a strong sense of belonging within our school community.

Through a range of formal and informal leadership roles, students are encouraged to model our school values, contribute positively to school culture, and advocate for themselves and others. Our student leaders play an important role in shaping a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment by demonstrating empathy, responsibility, and a commitment to making a difference.

We are proud to foster leadership that is not defined by title, but by action—where all students are empowered to lead in ways that reflect their strengths, support their peers, and enhance our community.

School Leadership Positions

  • School and Vice Captains
  • Sports House Captains
  • Music Captains
  • Cultural Captains
  • Sustainability Ambassadors
  • Student leaders

Our Student Leaders are elected through a democratic process that includes a written application, interview, speech to their peers, and a student vote. This process recognises students who demonstrate leadership potential, commitment to our school values, and a desire to positively contribute to the school community.

Student Council

Each Semester, years 3 to 6 elect a responsible classmate to represent them on the Student Council. Student leaders also attend our weekly meetings and report to year 1 and 2 classes. Student Council activities include:

  • fundraising once a term for selected charities
  • weekly judging and presenting of the 'Tidy Class Trophy'
  • weekly assembly presentations of a social skill
  • discussion of student feedback on a range of school issues (this feedback is then passed on to the principal and then the P&C Committee).

Students selected in any elected/selected positions have to exemplify an appropriate standard of behaviour. Failure to do so may result in the loss of the position/badge.
